My favorite places to travel are the ones that surprise me. Japan is probably the best example of this. Its culture is a complete 180 from NYC and US life but it works so well for them as a society (mostly).
The Galápagos is the other one, where so many of the animals have no predators and act nothing like wildlife you'd see anywhere else.
